Culture in the Netherlands
Culture is the mirror of society. Theatrical shows, pop concerts, paintings at an exhibition, historical city centres and accessible historical documents are crucial ingredients of a society in which people of different generations and backgrounds live together. Culture teaches us to look at others from a new perspective; it encourages us to enter into dialogue and debate and to appreciate other people's values. Art deepens our human contacts. This is why the Dutch government believes it is imporant to promote popular participation in cultural expressions.
